"Raise The Standard" Youth Ministries
Preacher's Desk
1 Tim. 4:12- Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation (lifestyle) ,in charity (love), in spirit, in faith, in purity.
1 Tim. 4:12- Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation (lifestyle) ,in charity (love), in spirit, in faith, in purity.
After being in the youth ministry for a number of years, I have noticed a large number of ads for youth conferences, youth rallies, youth camps, and other activities designed to entertain our teenagers. Most of them have made this old-fashioned Baptist preacher sick to his stomach.

As a young person in the church, I remember going to church and vacation bible school and having my heart strings tugged as we sang the old songs of the faith. Songs like Amazing Grace, Nothing But The Blood, There Is A Fountain, There's Power In The Blood, and Victory In Jesus. And when the preacher would stand to preach, his Bible always read like everybody else's Bible.

As I read these advertisements, I can not help but notice that modern youth ministry is nothing more than worldly entertainment. They are excepting the same things that were preached against a generation ago. Now instead of singing "What can wash away my sin?----Nothing but the blood of Jesus" we bring in some blue haired, earring wearing, homosexual looking rock and roll singers and call it a Christian concert! Then a "youth speaker" will get up and give a 5-10 minute devotional out of whatever "version" he is trying to sell so that our kids will feel better about themselves and achieve self-esteem.

Instead of singing spiritual songs(the kind Jesus would listen to), we have worldly styled music. Instead of preachers, we have "speakers", and instead of Bible doctrine we have pop psychology.

Our youth conferences are no longer 5 days of old-fashioned preaching, but rather the kids are introduced to "no no" the clown and "fu fu" the dog. The kids are taken to amusement parks, water parks, zoos, beaches, and other such things. The kids will then be given a pep talk by some "youth speaker" who refuses to preach against sin for fear that he may offend someone!

There is no preaching against sin, no encouragement to holy living, no emphasis on Bible doctrine, and no seperation from the world.

Romans 10:14,"And how shall they hear without a preacher?"

I am saved today because a preacher took the Bible (KJV), preached against my sin, and fearlessly proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If our teenagers are going to be saved then we need to get rid of the "youth speakers" and bring back the preachers!

The Bible says that Christians are supposed to be different. We should look different, talk different, act different, and live different. We should enjoy different things, laugh at different jokes, listen to different music, watch different things, and so on. It's time to stop imitating the world and live as newe creatures in Christ Jesus(2 Corinthians 5:17). The Bible says in 1Thessalonians 5:22 to "Abstain from all appearance of evil." I have heard so many so called "Christian" rock, rap, and country songs that sounded just like the music played in the local bar or night club. If it looks like a rat, smells like a rat, or sounds like a rat; IT IS A RAT!

Isaiah 62:10- .... lift up a standard for the people. Are you willing to Raise The Standard in your life? 2 Tim.2:22- Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace......
